Webinar description:
Most sustainability efforts focus on fixing individual problems like waste, tourism, water or livelihoods. But what if these are not separate problems at all? What if they are symptoms of the same linear system?
In this webinar, Utsow Pradhan shares how permaculture design principles have been applied beyond the farm to build regenerative systems in the Eastern Himalayas. Drawing from real experiences in waste management, community engagement, regenerative tourism and ecological restoration, the session explores how seemingly disconnected challenges can be redesigned into circular relationships that benefit both people and nature.
Rather than presenting permaculture as a collection of techniques, this webinar demonstrates how it can become a practical framework for designing resilient communities. Participants will leave with a fresh perspective on systems thinking and practical insights that can be applied to villages, organisations, businesses and landscapes of every scale.

About Speaker:
Utsow Pradhan is the Founding Gardener and Director of TIEEDI Permaculture Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation working to restore relationships between people and nature in the Eastern Himalayas.
After leaving a successful corporate career, he dedicated himself to applying permaculture design to real-world environmental and community challenges. His work spans circular waste management systems, regenerative tourism, ecological restoration, natural building and community education.
An avid reader with interests ranging from ecology and systems thinking to history, psychology, economics and philosophy, Utsow believes that meaningful solutions emerge when ideas from diverse disciplines come together. He is also an ultra runner, having completed 100 km mountain ultramarathons, an experience that continues to shape his belief in patience, resilience and the power of small, consistent actions over time.
Under his leadership, TIEEDI has established North Bengal's only functional Material Recovery Facility and developed practical models for regenerative development that have received national and international recognition. Utsow believes regeneration begins not by solving isolated problems, but by redesigning the relationships between people, economy and ecology.
The organisation's work has received national and international recognition, including the Global Responsible Tourism Award, Outlook Responsible Tourism Award and their holistic waste management approach has been featured in the National Geographic Documentary - “Himalayas to Sea, Plastic Free”.
