About the course

The MINI PDC is for anyone who wants to learn permaculture and has been thinking about doing a PDC. It has the relevant and sufficient information you need to know to learn permaculture, design your land and start growing your own food.

In this course, you will learn everything you need to know about how to design & build your permaculture project. You will learn what permaculture is, its ethics and principles. Since this is a design science that mimics nature, you will then learn about basic ecological concepts, systems thinking and nature’s patterns.

This will lead us to talk about the permaculture flywheel of soil, trees and water. This basic understanding will become a foundation and constant reminder when you work on your permaculture project.

With this knowledge, we will learn about site assessment and analysis. This will involve studying your climate, geography, sectors, soil and water. This is called reading your land, and is essential for designing your farm. It will help us to arrive at a Base Map for your site.

With this base map in hand, we will learn about how to design the landscape starting with a Conceptual Map. We will incorporate permaculture zones, plan for disaster, design for access and aesthetics, as we refine our conceptual designs and create a full fledged masterplan.

To design and implement a permaculture project, implementation skills are key. Else you can waste a lot of money and time, in having to re-do activities and tasks. We will learn some tips and tools on the implementation process as well.

Being a permaculture designer is not just about having a farm with beautiful gardens and abundance of species. It is also about changing the way you live, and growing as a person. In fact you don’t really need to have land to be a permaculturist. It is important to start practicing permaculture principles at whichever place you find yourself today!
